Pukka's guided meditation for relaxation
Relaxation is something so naturally human. When we are at our most relaxed we are happy, calm and at ease.
It's not always easy to achieve a sense of calm. Life’s challenges and daily stressors can both have a knock on effect on our quality of sleep. Sleep is fundamental to our overall health and it's important that we protect it. Sleep can help to support our immune system, improve memory and cognitive function and help us to cope with stress.
Luckily there are some simple bedtime rituals that can help us to get better sleep and meditation is a wonderfully relaxing technique to add to your routine. Meditation can help us to stimulate relaxation and brings a sense of calm to a busy mind. The great thing about it is absolutely anyone can do it and all you need is yourself and a few quiet minutes. It can be done anywhere you like but we would recommend sitting or lying on your bed as this you will then associate this space with a sense of peace and calm.
We can turn our relaxation system on through awareness and practice. Relaxation is a skill that can be learnt stage by stage. A bit like if you want to be able to do a handstand, you have to practice, if you want to relax you have to practice. There are some special yoga techniques that teach a sequential and logical path to relaxation that has three interrelated parts; Body awareness, Breath awareness and Breath balancing.
